Registration for a passenger car, light truck (pickup truck, panel delivery truck or carryall truck), and motorcycle require proof of valid insurance, if applicable a valid inspection (within 90 days of expiration of registration), valid photo identification (if the registration is more than 30 days expired) and if available the three part renewal notice issued by Texas Department of Motor Vehicles.

Processing a registration for someone else.
Businesses and Organizations:
Employees authorized to title or register a vehicle for leasing companies, government entities, organizations and private businesses must provide the following in addition to their own government-issued identification:
- A letter of authorization on the employer’s official letterhead, or
- An official business card with the employer and employee’s name or
- An employee ID with a Photo
Power of Attorney:
If you are applying for a registration renewal on behalf of another person, you will need to have a Limited Power of Attorney Form VTR-271 (available at www.txdmv.gov/forms), along with all the documents below:
- Identification matching the person or employee of the entity named as power of attorney, and
- Identification of the owner or lienholder.
