When are my property taxes due?

Taxes are due and payable on October 1, and are delinquent if not paid on or before January 31. State law requires that penalties and interest be charged on taxes paid after January 31.

I never received a tax statement; what should I do?

To print a property tax statement, please visit our website at Dallas County Web Site and search for your property. Once you have located and selected your property, click on Current Tax Statement, Summary Tax Statement, or Taxes Due Detail by Year and Jurisdiction on the lower right-hand side of the page. Once selected, the system will generate your statement and ask you to click on the “here” link.

How can I get a receipt for my last property tax payment?

To print a property tax payment receipt, please visit our website at Dallas County Web Site and search for your property. Once you have located and selected your property, click on Composite Receipt on the lower right-hand side of the page. Then, select the year to generate the receipt.

Why did my tax statement come to me instead of my mortgage company?

Either your mortgage company did not request the statement, or the request was received too late. Please contact your mortgage company for additional information.

My address is not correct on my bill, how do I get it corrected?

Contact your local Appraisal District.

Why did I receive a tax bill on property I no longer own?

The records showed you as the owner when the bills were printed. Contact your local Appraisal District to correct this.

Are payment arrangements available?

While the Tax Office is bound by law to follow the rules and guidelines set out in the Texas Property Tax Code, we are committed to working with our taxpayers to offer payment arrangement solutions that allow for the payment of taxes over time within the guidelines of the Texas Property Tax Code.

We accept multiple on-line payment methods, including eChecks, (no additional fee), and credit or debit cards (Chase bank convenience fees apply). Visit www.dallascounty.org/tax, and select “Pay a Property Tax Bill”.

Once you have entered your information and selected the account, click on the yellow payment plan options tab to discover which specific options are available to you. Options may include the following:

• Partial Payments/Informal Payment Plan
  Property Tax statements are mailed in October of each year, and taxes are due upon receipt, and delinquent if paid after January 31st. State law requires that penalty and interest be charged after the January 31st delinquency date. However, if homeowners are unable to pay the full amount due, the Tax Office accepts partial payments in any amount, at any time. The partial payment will reduce the balance due, and only the remaining amount will accrue penalty and interest. To make a payment online, please visit our homepage at www.dallascounty.org/tax and select Pay a Property Tax Bill. Partial payments for delinquent taxes will be applied to the oldest tax year due first.
  • Over-65/Disabled/Disabled Veteran Installment Plan (aka Quarter Pay) If this is your homestead property and you qualify for the Over 65 or Disable exemption, you may be eligible to enter into an Over65/Disabled installment payment agreement. This installment payment agreement allows you to make four equal payments on your property taxes, without incurring penalties and interest if the first installment (1/4 of the total amount due) is paid before the delinquency date. Payment due dates are January 31st, March 31st, May 31st and July 31st. Once the first payment is made, we will send you payment coupons and return envelopes for your remaining installment payments. Once you have entered your information and selected the account, click on the yellow payment plan options tab. The Installment Agreement option will appear if the account is eligible.
  • Homestead Payment Agreement A Homestead Payment Arrangement provides taxpayers with an opportunity to enter into an agreement to pay taxes in installments on their homesteaded property, that includes any accrued penalty and interest. This payment arrangement is contingent upon receipt of the first payment and timely payment of all subsequent amounts. This arrangement will be subject to approval. For more information regarding homestead payment arrangements, please contact our collection firm Linebarger, Goggan, Blair & Sampson, LLP, at 214-880-0089 or toll free 800-441-0960. www.lgbs.com. If you would like to self-enroll, please visit our website at Tax Office | Property Tax Lookup/Payment Application (dallascounty.org).   • Non-Homestead Payment Agreement A Non-Homestead Payment Arrangement provides taxpayers an opportunity to enter into an agreement to pay taxes in installments on a property other than their homestead, that includes any accrued penalty and interest. This payment arrangement is contingent upon receipt of the first payment and timely payment of all subsequent amounts. This arrangement will be subject to approval. Deferral
Homeowners who have a homestead exemption and qualify for the Over 65 or the Disabled Person exemption, may postpone paying taxes by filing a Tax Deferral Affidavit with the appraisal district. This deferral only postpones the taxes and does not cancel them. Taxes continue to accrue interest at five (5) percent annually. When the homeowner no longer owns or resides in the home, the deferred taxes and interest become due. Any penalty and interest that was due on the tax bill for the home before the tax deferral will remain on the property and become due when the tax deferral ends. After the tax deferral ends and the taxes remain unpaid, on the 181^st day, the taxing units may pursue tax collections, including full P&I and attorney fees.

If you have an existing mortgage, please contact your mortgage company/lender before filing for the tax deferral. Filing a deferral may not stop the mortgage company from paying your taxes.
