How do I apply for a refund for an overpayment or erroneous payment on my property tax account?
Overpayment or erroneous property tax payments over $5.00 are researched and generally refunded without a request from the taxpayer. These types of refunds are generally processed 30-45 days from the date of the payment. However, if the refund is over $20, the refund may take additional time due to the approval process outlines in section 31.11 of the Texas Property Tax Code.
I have a new exemption but I have already paid the property taxes due on my account, am I eligible for a refund?
When the appraisal district makes a change to an account, such as adding an exemption or adjusting the value, a monthly supplemental file is sent to the county tax office. Once received, we will update our records to reflect the change. If the change decreases the levy, an adjustment refund will be created for any overpayment made to the account. These types of refunds are generally processed 30-45 days from the date the tax office receives to adjustment from the appraisal district. Refunds of over $5.00 are automatically issued and no application is required.
How long will it take before I receive my refund?
Refunds are typically processed within 30 – 45 calendar days from the date of payment or adjustment. If the refund amount is over $20, the refund may take additional time due to the approval process, per Tax Code 31.11.
Do I need to complete a refund application?
No application is necessary. Refunds over $5.00 are reviewed and issued without a request from the taxpayer.
I did not receive my refund check in the mail, how can I get it reissued?
